Time for a change

Dizzee Rascal has spoken about his change in musical direction, away from the hardcore grime of his youth, and into a more 'pop' sound. The Bow boy made good says he wants to be 'as big as Britney Spears', but if his latest single 'Bonkers' is anything to go by it won't be at the expense of being very good indeed.

'The new album is a definite move away from grime for me,' he said to the Sun. 'I can’t get any more hardcore than I was. Boy In Da Corner was wicked, but I’m not underground any more. I’ve been around the world and I understand different music now — it’s a challenge for me.'

The change in direction has come about because of positive changes in his personal life, to boot. Hooray for Dizzy!

My life of crime is behind me now. I can’t write about it any more. It wouldn’t be authentic, (so) I’m going to be a pop star now. I just need to work out how. There’s no reason I couldn’t be as big as Britney Spears. It’s a challenge, but I’m up for it.'
