To put it Bluntly: Too posh for pop

Jane Blount contacted BBC Radio 4’s Today programme last Friday to stick up for her son (who performs under the stage name James Blunt), expressing her concern that he is victimised by critics as a result of his privileged background. After all, it’s not his fault that he was educated at Harrow, and was given an army-sponsored university place, is it?

The Telegraph reported that the woman who spawned the‘You’re Beautiful’singer e-mailed the radio station upon hearing a programme about various chart acts which have been to fee-paying schools. Blunt’s mum felt compelled to stick up for her darling boy when she heard pop mogul, Pete Waterman admit that he found it ‘very difficult for somebody to tell me how our life is if they've been to a private school.’

The concerned mother e-mailed: ‘My son James Blunt, who is hugely appreciated worldwide, receives harsh criticism and we have rather sadly become aware that it's because of his background.’ Is that really the only reason, Jane?
