Top 5 X-Factor hits

Love it or hate it X-factor is back! Now in its tenth series X-factor has become a staple Saturday night watch (for some!) once the summer draws to an end. The singing contest, ever popular with those seeking a life of fame and stardom continues to churn out pop stars and singing sensations each year. Some have been hugely successful (some not so much!) but we take a look at five top X-factor hits.

A moment like this - Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis, the third winner of X-factor released her debut single A moment like this in December 2006. Originally released by Kelly Clarkson following her win on American Idol, Leona obtained the Christmas number 1 and has sold almost 1 million copies of the single. Leona has gone on to be a hugely successful artist.

When we collide – Matt Cardle

In 2010, Matt Cardle won the seventh series of the X-factor and subsequently released his winning song When we collide – a cover of Many of Horror – by Scottish rock trio Biffy Clyro. Despite attempts by Biffy Clyro to get the public to buy their version rather than Matt Cardle’s, Matt’s single achieved Christmas number 1 and has achieved sales of 1 million copies.

That’s my Goal – Shayne Ward

Shanye Ward was the second winner of X-factor way back in 2005. He released his debut single, That’s my goal in December 2005 and, surprise surprise, reached number 1 for Christmas. He remained in the top 75 for 21 weeks.

Hallelujah – Alexandra Burke

Having made it through to the Judges houses but then eliminated in the second series of X-factor in 2005 (the one Shayne Ward eventually went on to win), Alexandra Burke returned to X-factor in 2008 and was eventually crowned winner. She released her debut single Hallelujah, a cover of the Jeff Buckley song, in December 2008 where it was Christmas number 1. It has sold over 1 million copies.

Impossible – James Arthur

Finally, most recent winner, James Arthur who took the title in 2012. James’ debut single Impossible, a cover of the Shontelle track was, the fastest selling debut single of any X-factor winner and you guessed it – was Christmas number one! The track achieved international success and has sold over 1.3 million copies in the UK.

We now watch and wait for the winner of X-factor 2013. Will there be another X-factor Christmas number 1? Only time will tell with the final scheduled for December 15th.
