U2 album out 'early 2011'

Fans of dreary Dad Rock rejoice: U2 are planning on releasing a brand new album of stadium stompers in early 2011. Expect to see Bono (wearing shades, of course) on the cover of Q Magazine, talking about a ‘new direction’ soon.

The band’s manager Paul McGuiness revealed the news to The Irish Times, and said that the band had already debuted several songs from the album, which include ‘Mercy’, ‘Every Breaking Wave’, and ‘Boys Fall from the Sky’ during their live shows. The album is provisionally being called Songs of Ascent.

‘I would expect a new U2 album sooner than anybody thinks,’ said McGuiness. ‘I would guess early 2011 before the next leg of the American tour, which starts in May.’
