U2 confirmed for Glasto

U2 have today been confirmed to play next year’s Glastonbury Festival. Countless rumours have been floating around for the last few months about which big name acts (Muse, David Bowie, Coldplay & The Rolling Stones to name just four) would be headlining the 40th Anniversary of the Somerset hippy fest, but the first to confirm a prestigious Pyramid Stage headline slot is U2. (Yawn.)

According to The Sun, the Irish MOR rockers will make their debut at the festival on the Friday night.

'Michael Eavis really wanted a huge name for the 40th anniversary and the fact U2 have never played Glastonbury in their 32-year career only adds to the mystique. In fact Eavis has been asking them for a while now and really stepped up the effort this year. This could be an iconic moment’ reports the newspaper's source.

Glastonbury organisers usually don’t announce the full line-up until the beginning of June, just 3 weeks before gates open but this one appears to have slipped through the net. Glastonbury 2010 is June 23 to 27 and has already sold out.
