UK Charts go World Cup K-RAAAAZY

If you take a quick glance at the UK singles chart today you’ll be forgiven for thinking, ‘is there a World Cup on?’ No, your eyeballs aren’t lying to you, there are EIGHT football songs clogging up the top 40.

Dizzee Rascal and James Corden’s jingoistic, (see the ‘come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough’ chorus) partial cover of Tears For Fears ‘Shout’ managed to shoot and score going straight to the top of the charts – it’s funny what a performance on the Britain’s Got Talent final can do for sales. The other footie chants in the top 10 are The official World Cup song ‘Wavin’ Flag’ by K’naan, at No.3 and Trevor Horn’s murdering of Baddiel & Skinner’s ‘Three Lions’ at No. 10. Meanwhile, in the album chart all the glory went to Christina Aguilera whose new album ‘Bionic’ landed promptly at No.1..
