Vera Lynn beats The Beatles

Dame Vera Lynn has proved that she’s still got the goods to keep that money rolling in – she’s beaten The Beatles to the top of the album charts and made herself the oldest living artist ever to have an LP nestling in the top spot by quite a considerable margin.

The previous record holder was Bob Dylan, who at 67 years old was Number One with Together Through Life in May. The Beatles have four albums in the top ten and 11 albums in the top 40, while Jamie T narrowly missed out on top spot with his second album Kings & Queens.

‘I am extremely surprised and delighted, and a big 'thank you' to all my fans for putting me there,’ said the Dame, no doubt jeering at the whippersnappers below her.
