X Factor star Ruth Lorenzo will represent Spain at Eurovision 2014
Former X Factor contestant Ruth Lorenzo is set to represent Spain during Eurovision 2014. She will perform “Dancing in the Rain” at the May 10 event that’s being held at the B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The winner was chosen using both expert judges and viewers’ votes. Although Lorenzo was heavily tipped for success she still had to win over the jury which consisted of some of Spain’s top musicians including Mónica Naranjo, David Bustamante and Merche. Lorenzo has been trying to break into the more lucrative UK market, but after finishing in the top 5 of the 2008 edition of X Factor, she’s been unable to make a career for herself in the UK.
When she returned to her native country, Lorenzo got a recording contract and aims to make an impact on both the Spanish and international markets. Her song “Dancing in the Rain” has already hit number 1 in the Spanish iTunes chart, which is a first for any Eurovision song contest entry. The song will be her country’s 54th entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, a competition they won in 1968 and 1969.
