Xmas No.1 Update

According to early sales figures out now, Rage Against The Machine is winning the battle against X-Factor champ Joe McElderry to be Christmas No.1.

Stats released by the Official Chart Company show that Killing In The Name Of is outselling The Climb by 10%, in only two days of sales on Sunday and Monday.

‘This is shaping up to be a very exciting battle between two different records which have captured the nation's imagination,’ said Martin Talbot the managing director of the OCC. ‘But although Rage Against The Machine have started off in front, according to our initial sales estimates, there is no doubt that this tussle is far from over.’

However Joe McElderry’s cover of Miley Cyrus’ song from Hannah Montana is yet to be released on physical CD (apparently people still buy these). The CD is being manufactured as this goes to print and will hit shops on Wednesday. From then it’s expected that the X-Factor’s winner’s song could still take the lead.

A Facebook campaign to make Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name Of’ Christmas No.1 was started in protest against the X-Factor’s domination of the festive top spot. The group now has over 750,000 members.
